Polar Lands Climate and TemperaturePolar lands are very cold parts of the earth that have cold summers and don't receive much sunlight. Two examples of Polar Lands are the Arctic and Antarctica. Every month in a polar climate has an average temperature of less than 10 °C!
Some parts of the Arctic are covered by ice all year-round, and almost all parts of the Arctic are covered by ice at least once a year. Average January temperatures range from about −40 to 0 °C, and usually the winter temperatures drop below -50°C! July temperatures range from about −10 to 10 °C and some land areas occasionally exceeding 30 °C in summer. The climate of Antarctica is the coldest in the world! It has been so cold once that it went to -89.2 °C!! Antarctica has a very dry climate, almost like a dessert, but it is much colder. It averages about 166 millimeters of precipitation a year. It is so cold that usually snow never melts and usually becomes Ice. |
